Is the Ladies Tea an extra fare event? On the link it shows a $40 registration fee. The Convention registration that I have does not indicate that is an extra cost event.

All: Plans, and registrations, for the joint SRHA-L&NHS-RPM convention/meet at TVRM 9-30/10-1 are moving ahead. There are two new events many people may not be aware of: box dinners at the Grand Junction depot Friday evening and a Spouses “Tea” upstairs at the depot Saturday afternoon. Getting into a restaurant in Chattanooga on Friday evening is difficult so having informal time to simply sit, eat, visit and watch trains on Norfolk Southern keeps folks from having to leave to go eat. The Tea is something TVRM began just recently. Upstairs at Grand Junction has been turned into an English style tea room. So TVRM can have an idea of how many people to expect, please use the two links below if you would like to attend. Convention/RPM registration will be available on site. For anyone planning to be there for Saturday only, registration is $25 and includes all convention and RPM activities. Ike

There was a thread a week or two ago about this. There were four cars originally that were painted silver to match. Then there were 3-4 cars that got shadow line scheme. Knickerbocker is the only car to do both schemes.

The easiest recent reference is a Morning Sun book titled “Trackside around Louisville (West) 1947- 1958 with Jack Fravert. Lots of good color photos of St Louis Div trains around Louisville. I think you can buy a copy through the L&N Historical Society. I will check for other references to this line in my collection. I’m from Louisville and have several more but this is the best reference with nice color photos.

Have you looked into the book "Rails Around Indiana" by Michael C Kelly & David Crisler Jr.? There some coverage of the Southern's St Louis Div. You may be able to glean some additional information to help in your research from the photos and captions.

Ike: Thanks. I researched the St. Louis Div. when SR's archives were in Kennesaw. I've also researched at the national archives, and at state and local libraries and archives. I have Harrison's book, ICC's valuation report and other official records. I wanted to know if there are other resources or people who are interested in the St. Louis Div. I have a PowerPoint presentation that I've presented several times in IN and KY. The attached map shows SR's main and 4 branch lines in Indiana. Craig Berndt ____________

This is the best image available of a Tennessean Sleeper. It is a 12-1 not a 10-3, but the would have been the same or same color without the shadow lines. There were two eras of these cars.

SR St. Louis Division

I live in Indiana and have been researching the history of SR's lines in the state since the 1990s. It includes SR's Louisville-St. Louis mainline and five branch lines in Indiana. I've made several presentations about the St. Louis Div.
The only SR history I've found that discusses the St. Louis Div. is Prince. Are the others? I was recently given the Oct. 1950 Trains magazine, which has a history of the Ps-4 4-6-2. It listed the divisions and subsidiaries that had the Ps-4, but not the St. Louis Div. SR's last scheduled steam was a Ps-4 on the St. Louis Div. in June 1953. Craig Berndt |

I’m researching the “big” engine that Southern operated on the Asheville & Craggy Mtn RR where I volunteer. The entire branch still exists; we run that last 3.5 miles and NS switches 1 customer on the rest of the line.
ICC val report lists SOU 3325 on the line in 1916. Prince’s book says that class was renumbered in 1910-12 by adding 2000 to the number, then shows all previous numbers and owners. It’s a real shot in the dark to get a photo of that engine wearing any number. It was part of the 3323-3327, 3333 group so any pic from these or predecessors would be great. Here’s the lineage of 3325:
SOU 3325 Was SOU 1325 Was SOU 602 Was Richmond & Danville 302 Was R&D 5
Built 1880 at Altoona Shops, sold 3-1925 to A&CM as 3325 but was shown as leased by SOU in 1916 report. There is no scrapping date. I found a poor photo of 3333 in a scrap line on the Southern Railfan web site.

Railroad Magazine in the 30's or 40's had a story about the division. Yes, it was a separate division based in Bryson City (I assume the depot there is still the same?) - the DS up and down a few more time between the hills. I may have the magazine around here somewhere. The write was pretty well known on Southern, worked later and retired at Marion and Old Fort as Operator, after DS at Bryson City (Frank Clodfelter? Not sure).
