I live in Indiana and have been researching the history of SR's lines in the state since the 1990s. It includes SR's Louisville-St. Louis mainline and five branch lines in Indiana. I've made several presentations about the St. Louis Div.
The only SR history I've found that discusses the St. Louis Div. is Prince. Are the others?
I was recently given the Oct. 1950 Trains magazine, which has a history of the Ps-4 4-6-2. It listed the divisions and subsidiaries that had the Ps-4, but not the St. Louis Div. SR's last scheduled steam was a Ps-4 on the St. Louis Div. in June 1953.

I have Harrison's book, ICC's valuation report and other official records. I wanted to know if there are other resources or people who are interested in the St. Louis Div.

Have you looked into the book "Rails Around Indiana" by Michael C Kelly & David Crisler Jr.? There some coverage of the Southern's St Louis Div. You may be able to glean some additional information to help in your research from the photos and captions.

The easiest recent reference is a Morning Sun book titled “Trackside around Louisville (West) 1947- 1958 with Jack Fravert. Lots of good color photos of St Louis Div trains around Louisville. I think you can buy a copy through the L&N Historical Society. I will check for other references to this line in my collection. I’m from Louisville and have several more but this is the best reference with nice color photos. This line was too light for Ps-4 s, the Southern used Ps-2 . I’ll get more references and get back to you. All the best

Yes, Ps-2. The Wabash River bridge couldn't support more weight, and that's why SR's last scheduled steam was on the St. Louis Div. in far away Indiana.
For historians, the 45xx 2-8-2s also served on the St. Louis Div. They arrived via the 2,200 ft. Burton tunnel on the French Lick branch. They were too large for the 4500 ft. Edwardsville tunnel west of Louisville, and too heavy for the Wabash River bridge, so they operated in Indiana's coal fields.

I understand the TRRA Historical Society did a deep dive on SOU operations into St. Louis some years ago. You might want to see if they have the issue that featured SOU.

NS Corp. controlled Southern and N&W when we photographed the attached photo of SR GP38 2864 interchanging with the Hillsdale County RR at Steubenville in NE Indiana in Feb 1975. Far from its home turf.

The Terminal Railroad Association of St Louis Historical and Technical Society Issues 43-44 - Autumn 1997/Winter 1998 was devoted to St Louis - Louisville operations and the Nov 1994 issue of “Southern Rails” issue #46 a publication of the SRHS was also devoted to the St Louis Division . You told me that SR took the 45xx locomotives in and out of Indiana via the Monon at French Lick. Were they dead-in-train thru Burton Tunnel?
